CZMU NCRIPP Hazard Exposure Map
Background Information on Hazards
The hazard extent layers shown below are the result of numerical modelling based on the statistical analysis of historical events. The 100 year rainfall flood and 100 year storm surge layers reflect the combined maximum flood inundation extents for various 100 year events occurring within or along several geographical subdomains of Barbados. As such they do not reflect the expected impacts from a single storm event. Similarly the 100 year cliff setback layer is based on zones of modelled cliff failure potential over a 100 year planning window along cliffed areas of the coastline (related to the structural characteristics of different cliff types) which were then combined into one layer. The distance inland for this layer relates to a distance with a 50% or greater chance of cliff failure within the 100 year planning window.
Disclaimer: This hazard exposure map is comprised of modelled natural hazard impact extents based on a probabilistic assessment of the respective hazards conducted in 2018. The hazard layers represent the maximum extent of several representative events and are not reflective of what would occur island-wide from a single event of the same return period. This map is authorized to be used for emergency management planning purposes only to identify potentially exposed assets. Use for any other purpose without appropriate consultation with the Coastal Zone Management Unit is strongly discouraged.
